Breast Cancer Australia has two primary programs that it currently runs.
We consider that one of the best ways that we can reduce the effects of breast cancer is to improve community awareness and understanding. We interact directly with people, primarily via phone calls, providing a one-to-one opportunity to increase understanding about risk factors, incidence, and treatment options.
Along with our charity partners, we provide accommodation in capital cities across Australia, for families of breast cancer patients who have had to travel to receive life saving treatment.
People who live in Australia's remote and rural areas need to travel to receive treatment. The distances involved mean that it is impossible to travel to and from hospital easily or, in most cases, in a day. This means costly, and often uncomfortable, stays in hotels and motels, and can often involve separation from family and loved ones, the very people who provide mental, emotional and physical support.
We strive to provide quality, family accommodation close to major hospitals in capital cities, where not only the patient, but also their family, can stay in comfort and privacy. These homes-away-from-home are fully furnished, have a weekly cleaning and linen service, and are provided at no charge to the family, making them a financial lifesaver. They are provided to a single family at a time, so that there will be no interruptions or intrusions into the family's privacy during this difficult time, and are made available for as long as necessary, whether that be days, weeks, or months.
Please see below examples of some of the properties we can provide.
Please contact us if you, or someone you know, is in need of accommodation.
